A drone transformer? can become ‘ dragon ‘ in full air
This design by the University of Tokyo allows the user to change their shape while flying so that it can adapt to complex environments
This drone is not a toy. As much as it is able to transform itself into a dragon that seems to float through the air, it does not do it to amuse people, but it is a new device adapted for interiors. The obstacles that a generic drone can encounter when entering a house are frames of doors, windows, lamps and different furniture that are so close together that at any moment it can end up crashing against them.

To avoid these problems, the University of Tokyo is working on a drone that is able to change from its usual layout to other more spectacular ones like a dragon, snake or Seahorse. Each one of those who have seen this video of its creators has imagined a different animal when it takes flight. This type of drones are intended to act in emergencies, when it is necessary to move through scenarios in which human access is difficult, but it is possible to send a flying robot of these characteristics and adapts to houses ruined or hollow Unthinkable.
It is amazing to see how this drone, which they have called DRAGON, is able to transform in so many different ways thanks to its 12 modules linked together… and in mid-flight! We can even see in the video how you can jump obstacles with an astonishing agility (at your own pace, but in a light way).
The goal of the team is to be able to create an android that is able to fly and transform into the air as this little drone does. So we can say that it is a germ of a future “transformer” of which we have seen in the cinema.
