THEY FIND TWO RENAISSANCE WINE BARRELS, FULL OF FOSSILIZED DATES
Anything could serve as a latrine in the past. This is confirmed by the finding made by a team of the National Museum of Denmark, in excavations made in the vicinity of Copenhagen. Archaeologists have found two wine barrels made of wood, and whose antiquity has been dated around the year 1680.

And it seems that, after drinking the last drop of the precious liquid they contained, someone had the brilliant idea of using them as makeshift latrines, since the two barrels were full of fossilized human feces. For researchers it is a spectacular finding, since it allows to obtain very valuable information about the diet that some people followed.
The analyzes of the excrements have allowed to discover that these people took a quite varied and healthy diet, in which the meat, the fish and the vegetables were mixed. Most of the products they consumed were native, but there have also been traces of Mediterranean fruit and spices from Indonesia, which reveals that at that time Denmark was already trading with distant places.
They have also discovered in the feces the presence of intestinal parasites. Something that was very common at the time for not cooking properly, or for not washing your hands before eating.
